Rated 5 out of 5 by Bassnwhaler from The right size and fitI was having trouble finding a tri zip that would be able to be a carry on, roomy enough AND fit me. I am 6’2” w a very long torso (32” inseam) and am rather stout (46” chest and 244lbs) The scree large frame fit me but the pack itself hung way too low when the frame was adjusted. It was also a bit small at 32l. The coulee 40 is a great fit, super comfy and the outside stretch pockets are great. Also, huge bonus, the waist belt not only has larger useful pockets on it (scree way too small) it is removable. This is nice when you don’t need to carry a heavy load and want to be a bit more nimble. I have trained with 35-40lbs in the pack (waistbelt on) and it is very comfortable. Most ever actually

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from This thing is awesome!I bought this pack about two months ago and I can’t be happier. I use it primarily as a fishing pack in Colorado and it is just what I need. It carries my waders, rain jacket, lunch, and all my supplies perfectly on the 4 mile hike in to slay some brown trout. I love the three zipper design! It is so easy to access all my gear! I can’t wait to try it out in Alaska this summer fishing and camping for two weeks! This thing is bomb proof. Also I can’t say enough about Mystery Ranch costumer service and their warranty repair shop. They repaired my Bearthooth 80 a few weeks ago. They took care of the shipping, fixed my pack, gave me all kinds of stickers, and gave me a hand written letter!

I like that you can dial the pack extremely well to your height also I'm 6' 3" and had no problems getting the Lg/XL pack dialed in to fit me. the quality of this pack is excellent to. I really like the zippers and I also like the 3-zipper system for opening/closing the pack. It makes it easier to get what I want in the main compartment.I have had a lot of packs in my lifetime and this one really sticks out as an excellent one. I believe I've found my go-to pack for day trips and also for an overnight hike.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Philip from Wish a smaller hip belt was available.As with other MR packs, the craftsmanship is fantastic. This pack is beautiful, and the size is just about perfect. However, the hip belt is just huge. I'm not a really big guy, but the hip belt just about overlaps my waist. I'm 5'7 with and usually wear a size 28 pant (sometimes I need a belt). I realize that they have to build these pack to accommodate the big guys with the 40 inch waists. But what about us little guys? The larger size packs have an XS belt option. Why not these mid size packs?

This is by far the most comfortable pack I've ever used. Purchased this pack and completed the Owahee(16.8 miles) & Apoxee(3.1 miles) Trails in S. Florida with 25lbs inside. No back or hip issues. The adjustable yoke makes this pack ideal for a customizable fit. Great for a day pack as the waist belt can be removed. Dimensions: 5ft 6in/135lbs S/M purchased.

It is extremely comfortable under load and very durable. I love the three zip design and the how it gives access to the entire main compartment packing and offer quick access when emergency items/gear are needed. It is definitely large enough for shorter backpacking trips as well.

Finally a bag that actually rides on my hips correctly thanks to the “Large” size option! The Mystery Coulee 40” is the answer! Great fit, construction and fantastic shoulder and waist padding makes for a great day on the trail. This is the bag! Mystery solved! Buy it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sasquatch S and R from Perfect Size and OrganizationLove this bag. It is my 5th Mystery Ranch bag and my current favorite. I have the Scree and my wife has the Cairn. But as others have said the pockets on the Scree don’t hold much. This one hybrid waist belt pockets hold a Garmin 64st with ease. The front pockets hold Grivel crampons. Side pockets are perfect size for a nalgene. Top pockets are sized big enough to hold small teams that I may want fast or often like my compass or map. This leaves the main bag to hold all my other gear. The little wraps fir the extra webbing is genius. It will be nice when above tree line not to be whipped by webbing in the wind. Tool holders work as expected and are conveniently place out of the way. This bag also fits me at 6’5” and 290lbs. Nice to have a day pack for us big guys. I’m also on a Search and Rescue Team and this will be my go to bag because it’s small enough but can handle the weight of half a litter or a victims gear.
