A medic bag for the front line.

The newly redesigned Rapid Access Trauma System (RATS) pack is a frontline medic bag whose every detail is focused on quick, one-handed access to organized medical supplies. There are multiple trauma shears and tourniquet holders throughout and large reinforced handles for hanging the pack on branches or inside of helicopters. It’s sized so that when mounted on the NICE Frame, there is room below the pack for carrying litters or hydraulic combi tools. Inside the RATS are four removable pockets with clear vinyl windows and two IV bag pockets. The RATS also features removable BVS that optimizes the pack for use with or without body armor.

  • This Internal Frame is an HDPE (high-density polyethylene) sheet that provides rigidity and yet is flexible. The Futura Yoke easily micro adjusts to the torso length allowing the proper amount of stand-off between the back and frame.
  • The BVS – Bolstered Ventilation and Stability system– allows for a stable, secure fit over body armor and can be easily removed.
  • Back panel stores a closed-cell foam pad to insulate patients from the ground
  • PALS webbing accommodates MOLLE accessories
  • Four removable pockets with color coded handles, vinyl windows and velcro strips to add an ID tape
  • Two IV pockets with a loop at the top for hanging them
  • Internal trash pocket to keep track of items used
  • Two internal sleeves for splints and long items
  • Two IFAK sized 150 cu-in front pockets for blowout kits
  • Top lid has a clamshell opening and features internal bandage and gauze loops
  • 300 cu-in zippered bottom pocket accommodates traction splits or other bulky items
  • Compression straps on bottom to attach litters
  • External shear pocket with elastic loops on either side for quick access items (tourniquets)
  • NICE Frame compatible - not included
  • Bolsters can be easily removed
  • Built of custom spec’d 500D CORDURA® with DWR and PU coatings for maximum durability, UV, and weather protection
  • Water-repellent, IR Compliant YKK® Zippers

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome..........butI absolutely love this bag. It rides perfect on “long walks through the mountains.” It’s great to run with and amazing organization. It’s suit me and I’m sure it does many most if not all of my missions. My only complaint is hydration. Medical has to drink water too. I know that there are many options, but it would take this bag over the top if there was at least 1L preferably 3L built into the bag without compromising space once the bladder is full. I always find this issue with Med bags. There’s space for a gear, but not water. Once again it absolutely serves its intended purpose and your team is doing awesome stuff. I’ve already reached out to other companies, but would love to see your team come up with something first.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from My new Home Medical Visit PackI bought this Back pack, as I needed something for House calls. In the time of COVID, and as a Direct Primary Care Doc, I do a number of these. Usually my stuff was thrown in a bag...super disorganized. Now I feel I have a place for everything. I really would have given it 4.5 stars (if possible)...not 4, because I would LOVE if there was an optional bag for medication organization. That is my ONLY ask! Then it is without a doubt...a 5 Star bag! The material is all high quality. Opens and closes easily. Comfortable to wear (and I am a woman). Well done Mystery Ranch! Worth the high price tag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NAILED ITHave been deployed with this bag for 5 months now. I don’t want to seem like I’m bashing other owners/users of this bag however there is more than enough space for 72hrs. Don’t over think your mission and pack what you need for yourself as well. I have what I need for bleeds to chest tubes and have room left over. Look around at what your more experienced teammates are doing and their experiences in your area. Then plan accordingly. You can plan for every unreasonable scenario and ultimately think yourself to unhappiness with any pack. This one is gold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits smaller peopleBought this a month of so ago. I’ve hiked and taken it to the field and it actually fits me unlike most bags. To put it in perspective I’m 4’11 and about 115 so I’m a small person. Most army bags are huge on me the frame on this actually helps support weight and fits. The storage is great I was able to pack all my Med supplies and snacks plus my camelbak. Only thing I’d add are sustainment pouches for the sides so I can use it as a 24 hr pack too or at least throw and mre in the side

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 14 years of trying to find the perfect aid bag, I stopped here.I'll keep it short and sweet. Fell in love with this bag after a 7 month deployment, and have never chosen another since. Not trying to contradict anyone else reviewing this bag, but in my experience, the ease of organization, access to items, and its size are the huge selling points. It's so much better having the neatly organized pouches within the bag, preventing an aid bag explosion when you open it. And it's easy to remember where everything is. As for the size, I had no problem fitting everything into the bag, medical, and individual items, for a 72 hour op. As for the comment about carrying water, I had a Tactical Tailor hydration pack with MOLLE attachments attached to the center back of my kit with a 3L bladder. The ventilation spacers on the bag rode perfectly around the pack, keeping it from shifting, and keeping it comfortable. I've used quite a few different aid bags now, and this one by far is my absolute favorite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great!Got mine yesterday and let me just say it's awesome! It feels better put together than my Issued med bag, it's really compact which got the weight down so it feels better. The only complaint is that near the Trauma shear pouch it could use a couple MOLLE loops to attach a gear keeper. Or putting a button strap. Also my Leatherman Raptors are a tight fit, but otherwise I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Medical BagI needed more room for supplies and a bag I could wear over body armor. This bag exceeded my expectations! Outstanding design and construction. I don't know how I lived without it...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless. One year ago and many months into the field, I realized that my military issued med bag (s) left much to be desired. I needed a bag that could carry all my medical equipment but also had room for reasonable amounts of sustainment gear. Thus began my search for my own medical bag. I looked at many types of bags but I was finally turned onto the RATS by my friend in recon. I knew Mystery Ranch created some of the best products on the market, but I was still questioning the price tag; is it worth half of a grand? Three months and countless miles of use later I can answer that question. YES. All my essential medical and sustainment gear (to include a camelbak bladder) can fit neatly and comfortably inside the RATS. The layout is spacious yet concise. Streamlined but still allows for flexibility. Even when I am running a chest rig with five full magazines, I never feel like the RATS is getting in the way, or that its overly cumbersome. In short I have not ran into a situation where the RATS doesn't excelUnless something changes, I am confided I will use this bag for the rest of my military career.
