I use the Urban Assault bag as my laptop bag to get to-and-from work. It's got a lot of things going for it that you'd expect from Mystery Ranch. The materials are solid and the manufacturing quality is stellar. The Tri-Zip design is brilliant and allows you to use the bag as a top-loader for quick access while still letting you open the whole thing up for easy packing. It's a comfortable bag, too, though I think it could be made even better in that regard (more on that in a minute). Unlike a lot of other MR bags, there are pretty decent internal organization options: a large pouch for a laptop (or hydration bladder, but not both at the same time because that's how you end up selling your bags to afford a new laptop) and a smaller pouch just below it for chargers/tools/snacks/whatever, both of which sit along the internal framesheet for stability; a zippered pocket on the lid of the bag for stashing sunglasses and other stuff; and two small zipped pockets along the inside flaps of the bag (to either side of the central zipper).
A couple things keep it from being a five-star bag for me. The biggest are the shoulder straps. They are very narrow. If you look at the ASAP (the bag this one was likely patterned from), you can see the difference. It's a comfortable enough bag for light duty, but the straps don't feel wide or rigid enough for heavier loads. The inclusion of Mystery Ranch's phenomenal Futura harness (or the similar harnesses you're finding on bags like the Coulee 25) would make this thing perfect, but would also jack the price up accordingly. The only other minor thing I'd like to see on this bag would be some side pockets for water bottles.
That said, this is a killer bag for moving stuff around the city. You get a lot of what makes bags like the ASAP so good without the copious MOLLE webbing, making this a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Frequenty Asked Questions
We're moving to a kitted system so that we can design and build packs and frames that are optimized for integration based on the function of the product. There are some cool new things in the works. In the meantime, we may be able to accommodate pack only orders based on available inventory - contact MR Customer Service or call 1.833.548.1999
As much as we would like to be able to offer our military/LE/ firefighter customers a discount on our packs, we have government contracts in these markets that prevent us from doing so.
MYSTERY RANCH accepts returns for a refund within 60 days of the original purchase date. Items must be returned in brand new, unused condition, and shipping charges are non-refundable. Please give us a call at 1.833.548.1999, and we can get you set up with a Return Authorization (RA#).
The only repair that we can offer on Dana Design products is a replacement back foam pad on packs with the ArcFlex body panel design. We can ship the foam to you and you can easily install it yourself without having to send the pack in to be repaired. Replacement back foam pads are $15.00 plus $5.00 for shipping. For any other Dana Design pack repairs, please contact Marmot or try the following reputable gear repair companies:
We are not set up to perform custom work on individual orders and no, we cannot build a pack for you in a custom color. If your concern is in regards to sizing please give us a call at 406.548.3234.
Also, please know that modifying your MYSTERY RANCH pack may void the lifetime warranty, so please think first before you start ripping straps off and cutting holes in your pack to make it more aerodynamic for winged flight.
First, start by washing your pack with hot water in the shower. Use a mild detergent like Dawn to get minor dirt and grime out of your pack. Dry the pack out of direct sunlight. DO NOT USE HARSH CHEMICALS TO CLEAN YOUR PACK. If you need to get odors/blood out of your hunting pack, please use Atsko Sport-Wash Laundry Detergent

We always recommend that you size down for the waist belt. If you fall in-between sizes on the yoke, we recommend that you size up.
Why did you add a production facility in the Philippines and Vietnam?
MYSTERY RANCH added these facilities because of the increased demand for our product. We needed the additional facilities to build for customers who don't require (Berry Compliant) US production and / or don't want to pay a premium price for products built in the U.S.A. With these additional offshore facilities, we are able to focus our domestic facilities on the Berry Compliant orders.
How do I know if the pack I want is made in the US, PH, or VN?
It will be noted on the product page on our website and you are always welcome to call us and ask if you don't see the "US" or "world" icons that denote production location.
Is the quality of the packs the same?
Yes, absolutely! We carefully select the highest quality materials and ensure that all production facilities adopt our quality standards and techniques to deliver products consistent with the MYSTERY RANCH legacy. Our distributors who have received product from the US, PH, or VN are unable to tell the difference without looking at the label.
How do you ensure consistent quality?
Our factory resources use the protocol defined by our team in our production packages in order to deliver consistent quality gear. Upon introduction of new products, our product engineers visit our factory resources to work with them to develop new styles. As the product goes to production, our QA and QC teams will then visit our US, PH, and VN factories to ensure the finished goods meet our MYSTERY RANCH standards.
This is the best EDC bag that I've own to date. I've tried bags from Arcteryx, Chrome, Deuter, LibTech, Mountain Hardwear, Oakley, OR, Patagonia, Timbuk 2, I mean the list goes on.
It's the ideal size to pack a laptop, lunch, jacket and water bottle. The inside pockets are great for pens, business cards, a small first aid kit...etc. The top pocket can hold a Oakley hardcase for glasses plus keys and small items.
The shoulder straps fit great for broad shoulders and easy to adjust. The zippers are on the stiff side, but close well. The pack performed great during a 45 minute rainstorm too.
The construction of this bag is solid, the design is simple and functional.
The bag is a great edc for city/office and is a great companion for traveling.
I use this bag on a adv-motorcycle and it fits great. A atlas neck brace fits well with the bag and does not restrict any movement when on a motorcycle.
The internal pockets on the bag are the right size, and all are easy to access, even with the bag being fully loaded. Also, the bag includes an internal frame, which carries a heavy load well. The frame and carrying straps are by-far the best I have ever experienced in a backpack. Mystery Ranch is a leader in load-carrying equipment for a reason.
The bag fits the current items and is only 50% full, leaving plenty of room for extra items when needed.
This bag fits:
Laptop power cord & mouse
Legal Pad portfolio
EDC kits containing spare battery and phone cords
First aid kit
1 XL fleece jacket
two pairs of sunglasses
keys, wallet and headphones.
If you are already considering this bag, I highly recommend it. The three zip design keeps this bag from being a large sack, it allows for easy access of all items, regardless of how they are packed. I would gladly pay more money for this bag, the current price point makes this an easy bag to buy and use. Dont waste your time and money with all of the $200 plus EDC/Army look-a-like bags that are nothing more then a glorified man-purse. This bag is a great tool for working professionals.
