Rated 3 out of 5 by hello Darkness from Bulky, Uncomfortable, and Not the Right Fit MEStarting off, Mystery Ranch makes solid gear, and I’ve been a fan of their packs both on the civilian and fire side. Their durability and design usually meet the demands of the job. That being said, the Big Ernie 2.0 just didn’t work for me. The fit was uncomfortable, and the biggest issue was the fire shelter placement—it sits right on the tailbone, which is a recipe for chafing and discomfort after a 16-hour shift on the line.Another issue is storage space. The pack still doesn’t have enough room to comfortably fit 48 oz Nalgene bottles without things getting too tight. While the main compartment does offer a decent amount of space, the way it sits high on the back makes it feel awkwardly positioned. On top of that, the whole pack just felt too bulky, which added to the discomfort. One more downside was when breaking the pack down into flight mode—even then, it wasn’t small or compact enough to store efficiently on the helicopter, which is a major consideration for our crew.On the positive side, I do like the addition of MOLLE on the waist belt, which is an improvement from the original. However, at the end of the day, this pack just wasn’t the right fit for our crew’s needs.Would love to see some refinements in fit, storage, and overall practicality in future versions, but as it stands, this one missed the mark for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by McCall Jumper from Ongoing Jumper review 20251st impression: Very light, intuitive design. Ample storage space that is simple to cinch down and secure. Easily adjustable, even while doing the pack test. Convenient Velcro access by butt pad to store cobra click lock and/or add padding to your liking (see picture). I’ll update this review after jump refresher and throughout the season if you’re still on the fence.
