It’s the most comfortable daypack I’ve used, and it ticks all the boxes for me: comfortable, amazing adjustability, durability…and it actually fits my female frame. It fits so well on me it feels like the pack is an extension of my body. Even though it’s 20 liters, and some may not need the hip belt, it’s a must for me. I’ve passed over many small daypacks because they lacked a hip belt and the ability to adjust the torso, so I am thrilled to have found the Coulee 20. For reference, I am 5’6”, 115 lbs with a 27” waist and the XS is perfect. I’m looking forward to trying out other packs from Mystery Ranch!

Rated 3 out of 5 by SKM11 from Excellent Quality.Nice hip strap and my phone fit in the hip strap pocket. The side mesh pockets are not deep enough to hold a water bottle tightly. The front mesh pockets are not functional - can hold a map or a snack - but not a much else. There is no rain cover (at least I couldn't find one), which I would expect given the price. I'm only 5" 1" and the shoulder straps are too wide for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Frankie from GREAT PACK / EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICEThis pack was my replacement for a 30 year old, 26 liter, Black Diamond Nitro pack that I was super attached to. I made the mistake of loaning that favorite day pack to my 35 yr old son. It is now the official "duct tape pack". But now that I've found the Mystery Ranch 20 L coulee to replace that old pack, I'm glad the old one bit the dust because this one is much nicer. Because I'm old (70s) and my hikes are much tamer than they used to be....I no longer have to strap skis on going up, and then strap snowshoes on coming back down......so this pack didn't need the same features. I find that the 6L of reduced space does not really have a negative impact on how much I can carry because of the excellent design. (first aide kit, food, extra water, rain jacket, extra socks, down puffer) The water bottle pockets on the sides are great for carrying snacks & lip balm & sunscreen & topo maps & compass, etc etc. (yes, I'm that old....there's lots of places I hike with no mobile service) ....I've always preferred to have an insulated water bottle pouch on the front of the hip belt where it's stable & super handy. (don't ever forget to carry water bottle upside down because the top is where it freezes the fastest). Plus, we humans drink more water when the bottle is right there at hand. I've tried & rejected the hydration paks where the tube gets funky smelling & tasting in no time. Yuck!! I've also already used this pack for trips to the farmers market too. I buy local, organic frozen meat, and it gets heavy for an old lady to carry really fast! This pack allows me to carry 20lbs or more of frozen meat with a couple dozen eggs & some veggies thrown in....no problem at all. CRAZY GREAT how effectively it transfers weight to my hips. I originally ordered the Coulee 30. Hated the color choices (yes, color really matters to some of us) The 30 L pack was too tall and I didn't like how the back of my head bumped into it. Turns out that the Coulee is so well designed that the 20 liter carries everything I want it to, and I didn't need the larger size. This one also fits under the seat in front of you on the smaller airline flights. The customer service at Mystery Ranch is awesome. Really nice people who patiently answered my quirky questions, and the return process was smooth and easy. For size reference, I'm 5'6", 145 lbs, and the med/large frame size is plenty generous for the padded part of the hip belt to wrap around my hip bones, where I want the weight to rest. I'll be a Mystery Ranch devotee forever now. THANK YOU!
