Rated 5 out of 5 by JSK1 from Solid minimalist multi-day bagPurchased this bag for solo camping trips where the 65L TerraFrame is too big. Easily fits 3-4 days of gear for camping/hiking. Just finished a 3 day trip in good weather in VA/Shenandoah mountains. Didn't bring a tent; used a hammock to save space. Stashed a tarp between the frame and bag for inclement weather. The internal zippered pockets and spots to slide long cylindrical objects such as tent poles or thermoses are good features not in the TerraFrame 50L pack my sons have. Criticism: the bottom of the bag only has a single row of MOLLE webbing. Adding a 2nd row would better allow for something like a sleeping pad to better be lashed to the bottom of the pack.

I needed something that would work for short term overnight trips, 3-4 days, Split-boarding, Hunting, and Mountain Biking expeditions. There are some great internal pockets and sleeves for stashing some of the smaller goodies. It would be nice to have some horizontal internal loops sewn to attach gear to, to make this pack a great go to crag climbing pack.

After using this pack numerous times I considered buying the pintler to have as a run and gun setup. With the price of these packs I couldn’t win the wife over on the idea of having two separate packs so I had to ditch that idea. I recently saw this BAG ONLY option on camofire and was extremely excited until I did futurer reading. It looks as if this bag isn’t compatible with older frames and really looks to be only compatible one. I think you guys are missing out on a huge market not having the compatibility to swap between the marshal, metcalf, and pintler on any frame New or Old! it’d be nice to see you guys expand on this idea and maybe even sell a conversion kit of some sort to make it to where guys don’t have to buy an entirely new frame to have this option of switching bags.

The Pintler fits right between the Mule and Metcalf in terms of volume. The Metcalf is great for my extended trips into the high country in search of elk. The Mule is my go to for day hunts. The Pintler fills the gap, large enough for extra layers, bag, shelter, stove, water, kill kit, scope and food for 2 to 3 day missions yet small enough for the stalk. The fit, form, material and craftsmanship is of course simply the finest, MR!

Rated 5 out of 5 by pilsner from Perfect "in between" sized packPicked up my GL frame/Pintler combo before the 2018 hunting season. Used it in Oregon, Arkansas, Texas and Arizona for hunting and backpacking. Ended up adding on a Mule (bag only option) to it for my whitetail and bear guiding duties as it was the perfect day pack option. Hiked out two whitetails with the frame/bag combo and was impressed at how comfortable that the GL frame made that never fun task. I added a MR pocket to the belt of my pack for use with both the Mule and the Pintler bags.Very satisfied customer. The wife and I are currently doing the logistics for a 2020 spring Arizona Trail thru-hike and I am certain enough that the MR Pintler pack is going with me that I sold my Osprey pack. Since the MR pack got here the old pack has just been gathering dust. Great job guys and gals! Thanks, Brian

Rated 5 out of 5 by ColtCRX16 from For the long haulThis is my 3rd Dana Design / Mystery Ranch pack since the mid 90’s starting with the ArcFlex Alpine, ( my daughter now has this bag), moving into the Mystery Ranch Metcalf on the Guide Light MT. Frame in late fall of 2019 for a upcoming backcountry spring bear hunt in MT. .The Metcalf is perfect for the extended stay 7-10+ days, but I wanted something less for either my every day Eastern Whitetail hunting bag up to 3-5 day backcountry bag still being able to have a load shelf for pack outs.The Guide Light MT. Frame allowed me to buy Pintler bag only. Swapping the bags out gives me the versatility of going light and hard, or long and comfortable, without sacrificing quality, dependability, and a brand I trust.

Pintler seems just what I need. One hiccup in purchase. Have 2019 frame. 2020 Pintler bag uses new buckles. Nothing in my reading about bag and frame warned me of difference, or I just flat out missed it. Fortunately, true to form, Mystery Ranch customer service sorted things out. $15 later for buckle conversion kit and $5 S&H, I was back in business and able to easily swap between my two packs on the same frame.
