Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple Light Weight PackI use this pack mostly for ski touring. It fits all my gear well and has the separate pocket for my backcountry tools. This pocket is a little shallow for long shovel handles, but it still works well. The suspension system has a lot of room for adjustment. I had purchased several packs, however my longer torso (~22") didn't fit other well. This pack has plenty of adjustment. It is also very simple but large enough for all my layers, helmet, skins, food and water. An entry system that accessed the bottom of the bag (maybe a single vertical zip near the bottom on one side) would be helpful, but is large enough usually to reach down to the bottom without having to take everything out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Ice and Mountain PackSuper rad pack! Haven't heard much of mystery ranch but decided to buy this bag after looking into the company's reputation. Turned out to be the best climbing pack I've ever owned! Super comfy and can hold a ton of weight. Also super durable for its weight, I've beat this bag up and have yet to damage the fabric. I ice climb and mountaineer with it and their ice axe/tool attachment system works perfect, no complaints. All said super impressed with the bag, if you're looking for a durable alpine pack I highly recommend the Scepter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scepter 50I am replacing a Dana designs Sphinx that is over 20 years old and has crossed the world. with me many times. I am very satisfied with the initial quality of the scepter 50. The only thing I don’t like is the slide on clips instead of traditional strap fasteners. I use the pack less than half full most if the time and traditional strap fasteners on the lid would be more secure. I tried to take the slide on clips off but the are stitched in. I’m thinking about taking the ones from my Sphinx.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Suggestions for refinementBought this pack in size L/XL as a winter-oriented upgrade for my old Pitch 40.Pros:-Excellent materials-Great colors-Good choice of buckles-Ample volumeCons:-Blowing snow and spindrift enters pack via hydration hose openings-Pack body length insufficient to allow load lifters to function optimally for taller users; load lifters pull back and down on the shoulder yoke rather than back and up-Single stay design transfers load less effectively than older two stay designs-Single stay design contributes to load lifter dysfunction; rather than translating load lifter forces directly down to the hip harness via dual stays, the pack body sides collapse before engaging the single center stay-Unused potential space between lid fabric layersSuggestions:-Equip small hook-and-loop closure strips to close hydration hose openings-Lengthen pack body to keep load lifters above shoulder yoke for taller users-Revert to two stay design for more effective load lifter function and overall improved load carriage-Permit zipper access to potential space between lid fabric layers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A lot of good, some bad.I have used this pack for five days on Mt Shasta and Mt Lassen. I like some the design features, like the shovel pocket and compression straps. I wish they made a 65 L for winter and spring ski mountaineering trips. It is a little small. I have the smaller version and love that pack. I felt like the hip belt was under sized for the 50L size. Plus, the stitching has begun to rip at the hip belt. Last I wish there was a brain pocket for easier access to headlamps, snacks or sunscreen. The small pocket is difficult to access when loaded. It's a good pack, but out if the 7 MR packs I own I'd put is at the bottom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PackAnother Mystery Ranch quality product, initial thought was uh-oh looks small, but I stuffed a big sleeping in it and was very happy. Lightweight and very comfortable for those off-trail 2-3 night trips.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I turned it into a multi sport bagI really needed a 50L pack for larger trips. This bag initially looked like it was perfect but once I received the bag, the design was just too weird. I made a bunch of modifications and I think I love it now? I can put skis on the sides now, I can access the side zip access now, There are a bunch of usable pockets with some added zippers. A shovel actually fits inside the outer black pocket. this season will tell but it is much more functional than it was originally before. Mystery Ranch people, I would love to talk more about the modifications I made if you are interested!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My New Favorite PackThis is my second Mystery Ranch pack, so I had high hopes. This pack exceeded all my expectations. It is well thought out, versatile, and built with quality materials throughout. It has the durable ice tool holders/gear straps you would expect, but it adds the ability to quickly strip the pack down be slick on the outside for travel through snagged backcountry/crags. I was also impressed with how effectively the pack can be expanded or shrunk using the compression straps. Many large packs don’t efficiently shrink, leaving extraneous bulk/straps/nonsense flailing around on your back. This pack doesn’t. The strap/connection system also makes strapping down your rope a cinch, even at -10. By the way, the connection points are metal, so no worries about fragile plastic at low temps. When I purchased this pack I was worried it would be too big/bulky for shorter trips and I would have to buy a second, intermediate sized pack... no need it expands and shrinks like a champ. This pack is now my all around go to for any ice climbing trip.
