Hotshot
SKU: Hotshot Kit
Tested over tens of thousands of overtime hours, cutting chain after chain of fireline, the workhorse of wildland packs enters its next decade of service with ergonomic improvements and even more durability.
Our Original Fire Pack, Evolved.
Over a long season on a Hotshot crew, engine, or helicopter, your fire pack becomes the one thing you can truly call your own. With key tailoring touches, Sliplocks on shoulder pads for adding a saw pad and MR Talk Box accessories, the HOTSHOT features enhance both comfort and function and improved framing—because every cubic inch of a fire pack is invaluable to the firefighter wearing it.
- Framing, structure, support, durability, and adjustability are what set our load bearing Hotshot packs apart from the field of industry-standard web gear. But framing for the Fireline is an art of walking a line that lets the wearer maintain agility and mobility while carrying 50+ lbs. for days on end.
- Like Voltron, multiple elements combine and work in concert to form a system greater than the sum of its parts. The Fire-specific yoke features our patented Futura adjustment system that telescopically adjusts to any user’s torso length, and houses a framesheet/adjuster whose aircraft-grade 7075 Aluminum stay is pre-curved to match the contour of the upper back. In the body of the bag, HDPE plastic backed by a vertically mounted fiberglass rod form the foundation of the framing, bridging between the yoke and the structure of the Fire belt. A patented lumbar system ties into the structured wings of the belt, completing load transfer through the body to anchor in the hips and core.
- Fully adjustable Fire Yoke telescopes to fit any torso length and includes sliplock on shoulder pads for adding saw pad and MR Talk Box accessories.
- Included Hotshot Lid provides 300 cu-in of storage, featuring low-profile admin pocket with pen slots
- All body-facing components built with spacer mesh materials for moisture transfer and body heat dispersion
- Wing pockets’ low-cut front enables firefighters to reach fuel and water bottles while wearing the pack. It holds up to three fuel sigg bottles, three FSS Canteens, or water bottles up to 40oz - 64oz.
- External detail pocket gives easy access to small items like headlamps, flagging, and batteries
- Included Hot Shelter Case MOLLE can be set up for right- or lefthanded deployment and slants away from the body to prevent shelter slap and chafe
- Zip-front, panel load access to main compartment
- INTERNAL FEATURE: Internal stretch-woven hydration sleeve with porting
- Fire Belt system features 2” re-direct webbing and PALS web for MOLLE accessories
- Pinstripe reflective ribbon
- Built of custom spec’d 500D and 1000D CORDURA® with DWR and PU coatings for maximum durability, UV, and weather protection
- AQUAGUARD® coated YKK® #10 Zippers with nickel-plated sliders provide exceptional weather-resistance and durability
- Nylon 6,6 hardware
- Nylon 6,6 webbing
- Varying density foams provide structure and padding
- Double-layering and web reinforcement in high wear areas
- Fiberglass Stays
- All body-facing components built with spacer mesh materials for moisture transfer and body heat dispersion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tony from Best fire packI bought this fire pack about a month ago and I've been to a couple fires with it already. This pack is the Cadillac of fire packs. I've fought wild land fires for nine seasons now and I've had a few different kinds of fire packs, and by far this one is the best one. It's comfortable, easy to adjust, it stays in place where it's not swinging all over the place while you're swinging a tool digging line or hot spots. I can't feel the weight I'm carrying as I did with my previous packs. It's worth the money, don't go cheap spend the money you won't regret it. I'm glad I finally decided to get one from mystery ranch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brian from Extremely durable, very comfortable under loadTo start with, I'm not in fire. I do trail maintenance/construction and often do it on the move with similar tools to wildland fire. I've used this pack now for over a year and as you would generally expect from Mystery Ranch, and especially for a fire pack that gets put through much more intense situations, it's built like a tank. As a crew leader I'm often carrying extra water in the side pockets, and I put a first aid kit in the fire shelter holder. The tool loop on the back is perfect to carry an extra tool up the mountain, and the general layout and design of the bag is perfect for this kind of work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Best quality pack on the market hands down. The best pack available on the market. Don't look at other ones (unless Mystery Ranch) because they will eventually let you down. This pack has multi purpose applications all over it. If something has a purpose= it has another. Easy to use large zippers controlling pockets, material that's bullet proof, and all that weight on your core, not shoulders, is amazing. It takes some adjustments, but when you get it figured out it's your home away from home. The large side pockets for fuel, water etc. Is amazing. I lost too much weight this season and had to get a smaller lap belt and contacted mystery ranch. A actuall human being immediately answered the phone and helped me with ordering another one pronto. Best customer service I have ever seen. If you are questiong this because of price= it pays for itself self. Thank you Mystery Ranch for making this pack and continue being awesome.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BobClimber from Workhorse of a packFirst off, I'm not a hotshot. I didn't buy this pack to become a hotshot nor to look like a hotshot while out on the trail. I'm a volunteer trail worker and was looking for something other than your standard fall-apart-in-a-season daypack to haul tools and supplies out on the trail for 8+ hours at a time. I agonized back and forth over whether or not to shell out the coin for this pack. It's WAY more money than I wanted to spend on something I was sure I was going to destroy in a season or two. It's now been in service for about a month and I am SO glad I went with this pack. It's the most comfortable 'work pack' I have ever owned. It's so comfortable I find myself leaving it on while working, even when I'm the guy hauling all the fuel and bar oil for 2 saws. I'm still unsure how long it will last, but fairly certain I will get my money's worth out of it. It's expensive, but well worth it in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by COOP from Works great!Bought it a month ago and have been putting it to good use already on fires here in Washington. Super sturdy and very comfortable. Love the pouch set up and the organization capabilities. Only thing I guess could be added is a small pouch in front of the water pouches for radios to go and be easily accessible not a problem how it is currently tho. All in all super happy I bought one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dylan123 from Comfortable and durableAwesome pack. I bought it in 2012, it’s lasted 7 hard fire seasons. My first season I had a pack the crew gave us and after 3 days on my first fire my hips were bleeding and I could hardly hike. I ordered this pack that night and couldn’t wait to get my 2 days off to try it out. Best $300 I’ve ever spent. It’s followed me on engine crews, type two crews a hotshot crew and now a structure dept. I’ve always chose to wear my own pack because nothing else compares. I’ve napped on this pack, burnt the pack, dropped the pack, had gallons of sweat on this pack, retardant, saw fuel, and probably some blood and tears on this thing and it’s held up better than I could imagine. Not only does it last the fire season but I’ve taken it hunting and backpacking on the off seasons. The only thing that has broken was a buckle. Nothing a quick knot couldn’t fix though. Don’t get some cruddy cheap pack to try and save money. Spend the extra bucks and get this pack, you’ll be glad you did. Only a few hrs of OT anyways.

Rated 4 out of 5 by CNYgreenway from Perfect marking packI purchased this pack based on a referral from a fellow pro. The main use is for carrying a backpack paint sprayer for marking trees. This paint rig fits in the main compartment perfectly and the pack does a great job of distributing the weight down low on my back to keep me more upright and feeling better at the end of the day. Broke a main hip buckle today after about month of use and submitted a claim to warranty. Will update as things develop.
