The METCALF 50 is the pack you want loaded and sitting shotgun in your hunting rig all season. With the ULTRA LIGHT MT™ frame, it can handle all the weight you can throw at it. The METCALF 50 is light enough to carry as a daypack, but strong enough to help you pack out your animal. Keep your essentials close and easily accessible in the detachable lid or remove the lid all together and run with a smaller pack. The roll top closure easily cinches down and securely clips to either the side or front of the pack, while the side zip allows quick access to all your big items.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The new Metcalf is lighter and better than the oldOh wow Mystery Ranch perfected the bag and I absolutely love the new color. This redesigned frame and bag is on another level. I own several of the pervious models to include the old Metcalf. They are uncomperable. First thing I noticed was the weight difference then the comfort and weight distribution right were its supposed to be. I am a avid coues deer hunter and this bag is perfect for any mountain adventure. The last thing I noticed was the accessories attachments on the frame and bag. You will be able to personalize it to your like. Buy the bag. I feel like it's on another level.

This is the second Metcalf I’ve purchased because the first I started using as a carryon for airline travel and loved it so much that I decided not to get it bloody-so I ordered the New Metcalf 50 for hunting only. They are different. The new 50 is definitely lighter likely due to the second difference- the material is obviously thinner. Hopefully it will be as durable as my first that remains to be seen. The frame is likely lighter too. The new version does not have a zipper closing pocket on one side of the side carry pockets which I love on the older version for airline travel but should be fine for hunting. All said I expect great things from this bag as always with MR but there are the differences noted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultra VersatileMost versatile hunting pack in the MR lineup- no lid for light day pack, with lid for long day hunt or quick overnight, or add the gravelly pack for a multi day hunt. I put my gear (sleeping gear, tent, kill kit, mess kit, FAK, possibles/dity, and clothes in the Metcalf 50 and lid and use the attached gravelly as a sustainment pouch. Once camp is setup, the gravelly gets attached to the frame and the metcalf stays in camp. Option to go 50-68 liters. The metcalf 50 is also perfect for work travel in the ponderosa color scheme. Doesn’t give off unprofessional or tactical vibes at all.

The 3 size options is great for someone who doesn't need a big pack but love the Metcalf design. Way to go Mystery Ranch, you knocked this one out of the park.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Held up during mammoth sniper challenge.I bought this a month ago and used it for 42.9 miles of rucking with 67 pounds of weight. Only issue was my bipods wore a hole in my bag that I want to get fixed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great bag, almost perfectI've hiked well over 30 miles with this pack. First, I would like to say the camo version looks awesome and is made of strong, water-resistant material. I also really like the slanted side pockets. These slanted pockets make it possible to remove snacks or water bottles from the pack without taking it off. The bag holds quite a bit, even at 50L. The straps do a great job compressing the load. The frame is also excellent and is easy to adjust as needed to fit different back heights. I wish the bag had more external pockets. The top pockets are exposed to the hot sun all day, so they aren't good places for food. The straps also pull down the top pockets, compressing them. Another issue is the material the back portion and hip belt are made of. It's very smooth and slick! The hip belt will easily slide down your body under load because there is no friction. Another issue with the hip belt is that the strap is not attached close to the end of the padding. This means that the foam will not sit completely under the adjustable belt strap. When tightened after use, the foam will stay higher on your body than the strap, making it feel awkward. This may only happen when the bag is very heavy, though.Overall, it's a great bag, and I do recommend it! There are just a few inconveniences.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Brilliant except the bucklesAwesome hunting pack. Hold the buckles. I understand what the thinking was behind these slide lock buckles, but I disagree. When the pack showed up one of the little locking mechanisms wasn’t even in the buckle all the way, it much really just demonstrated how fragile they are. Just introducing a point of failure here with these. Ergonomically, they also slow you down while using the pack. The locks require a specific amount of pressure applied in one of two specific directions. I get it, you wanted to make a pack that has buckles that don’t loosen up - but in my opinion it trashes the user experience. All in all I love the pack, and will use it. Had I known about these buckles, I would have moved on and bought somewhere else. It’s that big of a deal. Tried to call mystery ranch and give some direct feedback about design. Guy seemed totally uninterested in improving their product. I asked to purchase proper buckle slides that would be easy to replace from the working end and he told me “we are not a parts supplier” and denied me. Also, not a great look.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The Squeaky PackThe noisiest pack ever. Hard to believe a pack targeted towards hunters would be this noisy. Constant squeaking with every step no matter what I did to try and solve it. Even if I wasn’t hunting with it I would go crazy listening to the constant squeak. Other than that it would be a great pack.
