Rated 5 out of 5 by Mfd3 from Most comfortable pack I've used5'6"135lbLong waist/ short legsPurchased small I have only taken this pack out on a few short pre-season hikes so far but I can already tell it is going to keep me comfortable. Weight distribution between shoulders and hips is great. I have a couple herniated discs in my neck so distribution is super important to keep those from flaring up. The pack is built to last as well, looks and feels like it could survive the apocalypse. I was hesitant to spend so much on a pack, but am REALLY happy I did. I have a feeling this bad boy will keep me comfortable and serve me well for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Albertahunter from LOVE This Pack!I cannot say how much I love this pack. I like the looks of it and it easily holds all of the stuff I use in a day out hunting (and what I don’t use because I always overpack). I used it this fall to elk hunt and packed out quarters of a big bull elk with no issues. I really loaded this pack up and it did not disappoint. The outer straps hold everything in place perfectly and I found it so comfortable even with thinner clothing on. I love the women’s fit too. It feels more like it was made for me than a men’s pack does. I can’t say enough good things about this pack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Betsy from Lid design changeThis pack is nothing less than one would expect from Mystery Ranch! The main pack is fantastic. I purchased my Metcalf to eliminate the need for a day pack, with the plan of utilizing the lid capabilities. Unfortunately the design changed. The lid of the women’s Metcalf does not have tuck away shoulder straps. The straps are two clip on straps that are about an inch wide. They are uncomfortable, and do not have the chest strap. When not in use the straps unclip, so they’re just two loose straps that are likely to get lost. I used my lid once as a stand alone pack, and went back to packing a small pack inside my Metcalf with the essentials. Disappointed with the new lid design.

Rated 3 out of 5 by whatthewhiteseat from I knew betterI love my husband's metcalf, so I bought my own. I always order men's gear because it is generally superior to women's gear (no matter what the manufacturer says). But, Mystery Ranch was out of the green color in Men's sizing, so I ordered a women's metcalf on the premise that Mystery Ranch said it would be no different than their men's metcalf, other than being offered in smaller sizes (I even called customer service to confirm this). Well, I knew better, and I should've just bought a men's bag. The women's metcalf is indeed different than a men's, the shoulder straps don't bear weight as well as the men's (I found out later that the design IS different between the two), and they don't feature the ambidextrous hydration tube holders. What a bummer. Not to mention, the stitching isn't quite as well-laid and uniform on my pack as it is on my husband's pack. I would have exchanged my metcalf for a men's if I had realized how much functionality was lost on the women's metcalf shoulder strap design, but unfortunately I used the pack before I came to the conclusion that it is inferior to the men's design. If I ever order a Mystery Ranch pack again, I'll be sure to order it from the Men's section. I was sorely disappointed with this pack in comparison to my husband's.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lydia from Goat Hunter TestedI definitely put this pack to the test on a Kodiak mountain goat hunt this past week. I was drawn to this pack because of the female specific build. After a painful pack out on a sheep hunt earlier this year with an ill-fitting pack, I decided I’d finally get a quality pack for my style hunting. I brought 10 days of supplies into the field and spiked out for a few days of chasing goats. The pack comfortably fit my whole camp and my rifle, and later I added half a goat with a little room to spare. The pack moved with me as I climbed through alders and over boulders. This pack has a good design allowing more versatility with my load management so that I can keep everything balanced, even at its maximum capacity. The quality of the pack added to the quality of the hunt, and is a staple element for a safer hunt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JTAnde from Fantastic packI absolutely love this pack. It is super tough and made really well. I might be in an overreacting honeymoon phase just because I have never had a pack that was really fit to me for packing game. But this thing is incredible. I am a male, I bought a large women's metcaf because the measurements fit me and the only difference other than the measurements that I could find was the shoulder straps were a little different. I talked to a rep and for my discount he told me the men's would probably be back in stock mid to late August. So I purchased the womens, because my hunting starts mid August. This thing is amazingly comfortable. The way it places the weight on your hips instead of shoulders is truly game changing. I took it on a 6 mile hike this weekend, in some rough elk country with a little weight in it. I found I wasn't needing to constantly adjust it like my prior packs it. It holds a lot of weight really well and comfortably

Rated 3 out of 5 by AP11 from Lacks in padding for amount of weight it can hold.Recently used this on a big back country trip to carry about 40 lbs of sampling gear plus all my personal gear and food... maybe around 60-65 lbs of gear total. It seems to fit appropriately: I ordered a size small as per suggested by one of their retailers; athletic build, 5'6", 125 lbs. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed that the back of the frame and belt gave me nasty bruises on my lower back and hips over the 20-mile trip. I love that I was able to easily load and fit that amount of gear in this pack (I used the overload shelf for a particularly bulky and heavy item), but I think the padding on the frame and hip belt are lacking if you're serious about carrying that amount of weight over a long distance. The frame seemed to offer little protection to my back from the item in the overload shelf. I'll probably try to see if I can order a different hip belt to accommodate larger loads for my next trip. The "V" design of the lid also tends to catch and hold droplets of water in a slight drizzle when a rain fly isn't necessary and it often doused me on the shoulder or neck with water when it collected enough to pool; an odd design that tends to catch tree debris and water in the mountains. Aside from that, I love the overload shelf feature and the degree of adjustment the pack has. The rest of the pack's water resistant material shed droplets really well and all my gear stayed dry. Best of all, the material is quiet and the pack doesn't creak!!! I also love that it condenses down so small. Will definitely use it on day hunts but might be weary to use it for backpack elk hunting on longer trips, which unfortunately, is exactly what the Metcalf is advertised for...

Rated 5 out of 5 by RobynCamvasCamp from Exceptional Quality and Customer ServuceThis is a legit hard wearing, hard working pack. craftsmanship is append in the details and construction. The service team is helpful, knowledgeable, and committed to crafting the perfect fit - even for nonstandard bodies and even (gasp!) WOMEN! All the stars for these folks. Also, the forager box is the perfect hip belt accessory. I wish I had upgraded the lid on my Metcalf to the daypack - it’s the same thing as the standard lid, just with backpack straps. As soon as I took it out of the box I realized that I wouldn't have any reason to replace it for another 10 years - one of those good problems!
