A higher-volume daypack that stays low-profile and functional

For those wanting a higher-volume daypack that stays low-profile and functional during your hunt, the POP-UP 40 stands ready – and it has the chops to shoulder some serious load lifting to boot. This pack’s OVERLOAD® feature allows hunters to instantly transform it into a bona fide meat hauler. The telescoping frame offers a hefty 80-lb. capacity that houses the bulk of the weight close to your back for exceptional comfort during long hauls back to your rig. When you need to get moving after a kill, the POP-UP 40’s face compression securely stows a bow or rifle, freeing your hands for trekking poles or navigating difficult terrain. In the meantime, ample pockets and storage compartments stow gear and rations close at hand, and a combination of zippers and a drawstring shroud allows you to grab whatever you need at a moment’s notice.

  • The POP-UP FRAME feature converts this daypack into a load-hauling system for those shorter, successful day hunts when shouldering out the brutal weight is necessary for extraction. This function allows the frame to easily expand and adjust to carry loads up to 80 lbs. It features expandable pole stays and a load shelf.
  • OVERLOAD® feature provides functional expandability via a load sling between the pack and the frame, allowing you to put the bulk of the weight closest to your back for optimal comfort.
  • Hunting Light Yoke easily micro adjusts to the torso length
  • Integrated ¼” - 20 optics thumbscrew allows you to thread your camera, spotting scope or rifle mount directly to the frame for optimal stabilization
  • Telescoping aluminum frame
  • Easy access to interior with top-load and full-side zipper access
  • Drawstring shroud

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love the pack! Hate the new buckles!I wanna start by saying I never leave reviews. I find them helpful so I decided to leave one. I have been looking for the perfect pack to day hunt elk but be big enough to spike out a few days. I owned the pop up 38 then the sawtooth. The 38 is by far the best out of those two. The roll top is the only way to go. You can fit more in the pop up 38 than the sawtooth 45. I didn’t find it to be an upgrade at all.I have been reading about packs for months now. I have bought several and sent them back. Money has not played a factor. I want a pack that’s low profile and streamline that doesn’t feel like wearing a surf board on my back through the woods. That’s how I landed on the pop up packs. They feel like a typical daypack but have the hauling capabilities when your ready. I actually bought the 38, sent it back and had reordered it who saw the 40 had been released. I ordered the 40 and it’s sweet. They have corrected the issue about the bag hanging off the frame. It’s a little bigger and the lid pocket can actually be used when the pack is full now.I love this pack. Why you would pay more is beyond me. Some of these guys think they need they’re whole truck on they’re back while even day hunting. They look so ridiculous. This pack will get small like it’s not even on your back. Then if you need a big pack it’s that too.I have one gripe with the pack! I hate it so much I am considering sending it back. They have changed some of the buckles to the style kuiu uses. You have to squeeze them, unhook then slide them out. They really made it hard to get into the main bag. It’s a two hand job and it really stinks! Why mess up a good thing?? The 38 is so simple to get into.I hope this helps someone. FYI the elberestock stock side pouches work perfect with the 38 and 40 as does the bow holder. The mystery ranch side pouches have bad reviews.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pop-up 40Been wanting this pack for a while but couldn’t decide between it and the Pintler. Ended up going with the Pop-Up 40, because of the smaller profile, ability to extend the frame for hauling quarters of meat, and shed antlers. Also the handle that the pack has, the plastic handle makes grabbing and carrying the pack very easy and convenient. Absolutely love the pack and will definitely be ordering more from Mystery Ranch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great new feature. The new feature was the 1/4” x 20 screw in handle that inspired an idea to make the backpack into a tripod. Just used my trecking piles for support. Picture attached is of a pop up 38. I’m sure mystery ranch could improve on the idea and I would be happy to consult with them. Good luck to all the other hunters and hikers out there who could use this idea to improve their experience.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Honest reviewFinally picked one up after thinking about it for a few years, wish I had done it sooner. I’ve already put 50+ miles with the pack in various terrains in Idaho and it is extremely comfortable even when loaded down with weight. It’s very well built, sturdy and the layout has been well thought out.
