Well-rounded backpackI have used multiple backpacks, and I find that this one balances what I want from a backpack more than any other pack I’ve tried. It’s comfortable even when full, and it’s sturdy. It also makes organization really easy through the combination of multiple large, stretchy external pockets and the excellent zipper system (I love how it opens all the way and in multiple directions/dimensions). This system is so much easier to organize than a backpack with one deep main pocket that can only be accessed from the top. It’s also tailored for women, which makes a huge difference in comfort and fit. Most bags don’t fit my small frame very well. Plus it’s so sharp-looking! The combination of black, gray, and a splash of blue make this bag really attractive. I have gotten several comments on it in the short time I’ve been using it. I really love this backpack!Date published: 2022-07-24

Coulee 40I absolutely love this backpack. It is such a great product. The only negative thing I have to share is the lack of free shipping. You spend so much money on these bags you should be able to get free shipping.Date published: 2021-03-07

Nailed it againThis is the third Mystery ranch pack my family owns. I purchased this for my wife. My oldest daughter has a scree 32 and I have a pop up 28. The quality remains excellent and my wife was very happy with the fit. The three zip design makes packing and finding items very easy. The large exterior pockets are prefect for trekking poles. I like it so much I am going to buy one for myself and save the pop up just for hunting trips!Date published: 2021-06-30

Perfect pack!I wanted a pack for a combination of carry on, hiking pack, and even a short 2 day backpack/fishing pack. I have used it several times already, and it is super comfortable while holding just the right amount of gear. I really love the front and side pockets and the top load is made even better with the option to unzip down the entire front to make finding items and loading easier. The colors are really great too!Date published: 2022-09-14

Truly the only pack that will fit me.Goodness, as an extremely short woman with a 14" torso, I could not find any pack that would fit me. I tried on so many, including Ospreys, Gregory, Deuters, etc. in many different models and most of them only go down to 15" torsos and would noticeably ride far too high or feel top heavy even with load adjusters. I resigned myself to looking for kid sized packs until I found that Mystery Ranch made the coulee in Women's sizes with FAR more adjustment capabilities. This one can adjust all the way down to a 13" torso for the XS or S size! I generally don't buy backpacks without trying them on first, but this backpack was a unicorn and the specs seemingly fit all my needs, so I ordered it.I have taken it on one backpacking trip so far and it's wonderful. It fits me exactly and is sooo comfortable. Do I wish it had a bit more back ventilation? Sure, but the fit and comfort are way more important and nothing else I tried came close. I also love the updated features on the new Coulee, namely, the lash straps at the bottom, the extra bottom access zipper, and the daisy chains. I also love the removable hip belt, which easily converts this into a day pack for my husband or makes it easier to stow for travel. I wish they kept the waterproof zipper, although the updated version does have a DWR coating. I also somewhat dislike how the side compression straps connect to the front pockets although I can see why they did that for added security. I believe previous versions of the Coulee also came with two more internal pockets for a bit more organization, which would have been nice. However, these are very minor gripes. No pack is perfect but this one very nearly IS perfect for me. As for the 40L, it works for me! My husband is the pack mule so on backpacking trips I end up only bringing my half of the sleep system, my clothes, and a few ditty bags of small things while my husband carries the big ticket items. 40L is pretty large for a day pack, but on the small end for a backpacking trip, so just make sure it works for your use case.Date published: 2023-03-21
