Overload™ Feature
Functional expandability – via the Overload™ feature – is designed into the METCALF and other MYSTERY RANCH hunting packs. The Overload is a shelf situated between the frame and the pack that can be used when extra capacity is necessary. With added length to the compression straps and auto-locking buckles to prevent slippage, the Overload allows you to put the bulk of the weight closest to your back and the load to be secured and stabilized for optimal pack-out comfort. Whether big game hunting or just needing the option of extra capacity, the Overload feature meets the demands from our hardest-core users.

Deeper Into Understanding Ungulates
Understanding that animals view the world differently than humans, the team of experts developed GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Concealment around the optical aspects of animal vision and not human eyesight.
We know that elk and other ungulate eye placement is designed for an extremely wide field of view—nearly 280˚—in order to quickly scan the horizon for potential threats. The trade-off for such a wide view of the world is diminished visual acuity. Using our standard of measurement, where we see 20/20, an ungulate sees around 20/40. Additionally, while humans have trichromatic vision—receptors providing us our full range of color vision—ungulates are dichromats. Lacking the receptors for tones in the red spectrum, they view the world in shades of yellow, blue, and gray.
