The King of bivy hunting backpacks.
The upgraded METCALF is a versatile workhorse with enough volume for a week in the field but compressible enough for an afternoon stalk. Built onto our Guide Light MT™ Frame, the METCALF has ample heavyweight capacity, and the OVERLOAD® feature keeps bag contents clean when packing out game. With a detachable lid, dual stretch-woven side pockets and full-length side zip access, this pack is a favorite among hunters looking for versatility and all-around utility.
- The new GUIDE LIGHT MT™ FRAME (Mystery Tech) continues the load carriage tradition of the tried- and-true Guide Light Frame™ and its rigid yet dynamic frame system, but with a few discrete changes. Utilizing custom-developed SJ Autolock buckles throughout, this new hardware collection provides the perfect blend of strength and weight. The 500D Light Plus fabric delivers high tensile and tear resistance, key characteristics for a robust, purpose-driven hunting frame.
- The five-point waist belt incorporates the highly functional Redirect system and delivers solid weight distribution and eliminates slippage over your hips, regardless of the load.
- OVERLOAD® feature provides functional expandability via a load sling between the pack and the frame, allowing you to put the bulk of the weight closest to your back for optimal comfort.
- The patented Futura Yoke easily micro adjusts to the torso length allowing the proper amount of stand-off between the back and frame.

- Autolock buckles prevent slippage

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anonymous from Excellent pack, but needs some workLove just about everything. Well worth the purchase...too much to go into detail, but the wait belt needs to be wider. Too narrow. Especially when hauling heavy loads. Second. Very frustrating when the hip pouches move all over when you unbuckle the waist belt. They constantly need adjusted when you unbuckle due to the design of how they are held in place by the webbing and only stay tight when the belt is buckled. Last. No external pockets and the pack is a little heavy. If those deer items were addressed, hands down would be the best pack out there. What MR is doing, especially here in 2018 is very promising and exciting. Thanks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Srfrost45 from Broke during 1st useI bought this pack in March in preparation for hunting season. On my first trip I loaded my Binos, rangefinder, camera, tripod and the mystery ranch water pouch. As I lifter to put it on the strap broke in 2 places my bag hit the ground, broke my camera, rangefinder and dented my swaros. I bought this to haul out elk and deer but it couldn’t even carry this super light load. Hoping I just got a lemon. Wasn’t fun hiking around with one strap. Wasn’t a good look to my client either not to mention the loss of the camera as the water bladder broke ruined it and my rangefinder. Put in a request for a new bag so let’s see what happens

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Versatile and dependable, it is the best pack ever built for the back country hunter.I first heard about Mystery Ranch when I was deployed in 2012. I thought, "What better proving ground than some of the most demanding conditions in one the most in inhospitable mountain ranges in the world." When I returned stateside, I put a Metcalf on my wishlist for Christmas. On Christmas morning my wife surprised me with a OD Green version of the pack. I've now had this pack for 5 years and I can attest to its construction. It is bulletproof. I've thrown everything at it from oversized loads to demanding environments to small day packing. It does it all and asks for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gesch76 from Game Changer!I bought the Metcalf back in early spring. I have used it for shed hunting, summer backpack trips and archery elk. I've packed out two bulls so far this fall. Most recently I returned from a 9 day backcountry archery hunt with my son. He was using the Beartooth. My Metcalf easily hauled all my camp equipment, clothing and 9 days of food. We covered over 50 miles and moved camp every few days. The fit of this backpack makes carrying extreme loads in extreme country doable. The attatched picture is from a successful hunt in Sept 2022 using the metcalf to pack out my camp, a front shoulder and the rack. The Overload feature made this possible and saved me a trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great packI just recently returned from this years Elk hunt. This was the first time using the MR METCALF. I have many other packs and have become accustom to having lots of organization in a pack. The down side to the pack was needing to get pouches to organize stuff inside the pack, the up side was I got to pick how I organized the stuff with those pouches. Another big plus is I could ride a horse with the pack on just fine with no interference with the horse or saddle. I would purchase another pack again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great Pack-Just make sure it's adjusted right! This is a great pack! Used it for 6 days in the Big Horns. Easily converts from stow it all bag to a slimmed down day pack. Very comfortable with loads. One thing though-make sure you have everything adjusted right. I was able to talk with customer service a few times to get squared away on adjusting the pack. Once the pack was adjusted right, it is very comfortable and can handle good sized loads. Buy with confidence, this is a great pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Serious pack for serious huntersWhen you want to get serious about back country hunting and are tired of poor performing, low quality packs, buck up and invest in a mystery ranch pack. It will most likely be the last pack you will ever buy and you will thank yourself every time you throw it over your shoulders. I bought this pack about 6 months ago after saving up for several months but didnât get much of a chance to use it until my early season cow hunt. I ended up dropping a good size cow 2.5 miles out and 1400 feet above the road. Thanks to this pack I was able to get that 150 lbs of meat out in three trips by myself. Iâm not in great shape by any means but two of those three loads were heavy enough that I could hardly get up off the ground once loaded. This had me pack concerned about my back and shoulders but I honestly did not have one bit of pain in either during the day and a half it took me to pack that cow out. You can keep your ultralight pack, Iâm taking the one keeps me smiling the whole pack out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from A pack that changed my life for the better.Bent my spine in 2005 while "site seeing" in Iraq, also torn my bicep tendon and ruined my shoulder. I have had to be careful ever since to rebuild my back and should strength. I drew a Bull tag in Montana's version of hell this year and took a chance and bought this pack. On the way in, my pack weighed 73 pounds. On the way out with a quarter in the meat shelf it was even more. I felt amazing and like I could go back for more... which we did of course. This pack is not only bulletproof it can carry anything you can. This has changed the way I hunt. I'm no longer worried how far from roads I am. It had given me the confidence to hunt where the animals are now. If I had a magic wand I would add molle loops on the waist belt. (I'll sew them on myself). I believe that a company should get your gear 85-90% perfect. It's on us and customers to tailor each thing to us as we are all different people and hunt in different ways. I am now going to be a customer for life. Thanks for giving me back my freedom to hunt how I used to guys.
