Rated 5 out of 5 by Gesch76 from Game Changer!I bought the Metcalf back in early spring. I have used it for shed hunting, summer backpack trips and archery elk. I've packed out two bulls so far this fall. Most recently I returned from a 9 day backcountry archery hunt with my son. He was using the Beartooth. My Metcalf easily hauled all my camp equipment, clothing and 9 days of food. We covered over 50 miles and moved camp every few days. The fit of this backpack makes carrying extreme loads in extreme country doable. The attatched picture is from a successful hunt in Sept 2022 using the metcalf to pack out my camp, a front shoulder and the rack. The Overload feature made this possible and saved me a trip.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Anonymous from Excellent pack, but needs some workLove just about everything. Well worth the purchase...too much to go into detail, but the wait belt needs to be wider. Too narrow. Especially when hauling heavy loads. Second. Very frustrating when the hip pouches move all over when you unbuckle the waist belt. They constantly need adjusted when you unbuckle due to the design of how they are held in place by the webbing and only stay tight when the belt is buckled. Last. No external pockets and the pack is a little heavy. If those deer items were addressed, hands down would be the best pack out there. What MR is doing, especially here in 2018 is very promising and exciting. Thanks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Versatile and dependable, it is the best pack ever built for the back country hunter.I first heard about Mystery Ranch when I was deployed in 2012. I thought, "What better proving ground than some of the most demanding conditions in one the most in inhospitable mountain ranges in the world." When I returned stateside, I put a Metcalf on my wishlist for Christmas. On Christmas morning my wife surprised me with a OD Green version of the pack. I've now had this pack for 5 years and I can attest to its construction. It is bulletproof. I've thrown everything at it from oversized loads to demanding environments to small day packing. It does it all and asks for more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great packI just recently returned from this years Elk hunt. This was the first time using the MR METCALF. I have many other packs and have become accustom to having lots of organization in a pack. The down side to the pack was needing to get pouches to organize stuff inside the pack, the up side was I got to pick how I organized the stuff with those pouches. Another big plus is I could ride a horse with the pack on just fine with no interference with the horse or saddle. I would purchase another pack again.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Jumo21 from Fits well, wears on the hips, bad stitchingI bought this about a month ago and was able to use it packing out a couple of mule deer. The fit was good, but for some reason it really hurt my hips where the ball of the femur meets the pelvis. I was able to get the deer packed out; over 4 miles. When I unloaded the pack I noticed that there was a seam on the cinch portion of the top of the pack that had come un-stitched. I was able to go through the Mystery Ranch Warranty procedure and get the pack in to get it repaired. I guess I would just say that I am used to a higher quality pack from Mystery Ranch, without the small oversight like stitching coming undone. I had higher expectations I guess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Great Pack-Just make sure it's adjusted right! This is a great pack! Used it for 6 days in the Big Horns. Easily converts from stow it all bag to a slimmed down day pack. Very comfortable with loads. One thing though-make sure you have everything adjusted right. I was able to talk with customer service a few times to get squared away on adjusting the pack. Once the pack was adjusted right, it is very comfortable and can handle good sized loads. Buy with confidence, this is a great pack!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Upfront68 from Great packAs a professional hunting guide I need a great pack. After years of searching for the right pack I finally purchased the Metcalf. This pack is comfortable for a backpacking trip or as an every day pack. After 3-4 years of solid use on my first Metcalf I purchased the new Metcalf in Sitka sub alpine. The new pack design has a better harness and waist belt but both packs are great. The original pack has seen a load of abuse in four years and is still in great condition. My new Metcalf has about 75 trail miles carrying 30-65 lbs and handles great and comfortable. The only thing that can be better is if Mystery Ranch would add an exterior pocket on the body of the pack. When the pack is empty or in daypack/scouting mode things like to fall out of the hood pockets when you open them. Between the exterior buckles on the center body of the pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous from Serious pack for serious huntersWhen you want to get serious about back country hunting and are tired of poor performing, low quality packs, buck up and invest in a mystery ranch pack. It will most likely be the last pack you will ever buy and you will thank yourself every time you throw it over your shoulders. I bought this pack about 6 months ago after saving up for several months but didnât get much of a chance to use it until my early season cow hunt. I ended up dropping a good size cow 2.5 miles out and 1400 feet above the road. Thanks to this pack I was able to get that 150 lbs of meat out in three trips by myself. Iâm not in great shape by any means but two of those three loads were heavy enough that I could hardly get up off the ground once loaded. This had me pack concerned about my back and shoulders but I honestly did not have one bit of pain in either during the day and a half it took me to pack that cow out. You can keep your ultralight pack, Iâm taking the one keeps me smiling the whole pack out.
