Deliberate placement of every pocket and strap for simple and efficient function.

The ASAP 20 was designed to be a lightweight and efficient assault pack for the shortest missions. Purpose built pockets with internal elastic loops are accessible from the outside via a zipper, perfect for mags, gloves, or a small water bottle. These pockets were intentionally added above the PALS webbing to make them accessible when you attach MOLLE pockets or the MYSTERY RANCH REMOVABLE STICK-IT. Hydration reservoir compatible with five rows of inner PALS/VELCRO® pile panel to accommodate radio harnesses or removable pockets.

  • Featuring our classic 3-ZIP design for easy, rapid access to the interior.
  • VELCRO® / PALS panel on interior body panel for attaching accessories
  • Port at top of body panel opens from either side for antennae, cables, and/or hydration
  • One internal sleeve to accommodate water bladders up to 3L
  • Zippered lid compartment with additional zippered pocket inside to keep small items accessible
  • VELCRO® Brand patch on lid for identification and patches
  • PALS on exterior for attaching additional accessories

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quintessential Assault PackBottom line, this is a simple, well designed, and quality assault pack you’d expect from mystery ranch. I’d like to highlight two main features that stand out and two improvements on my wish list that I hope can be added to future designs:First Positive: Useable Compartments and Internal Capacity. The ASAP 20’s main compartment is large and wide open; no silly tapering or weird shape (Looking at you Gunfighter 14). Mystery Ranch innovated on their standard y-zip setup for the ASAP 20 by including two additional access zippers on the exterior of the bag. These zippers allow access to two internal mesh pockets which, on previous MR military packs like the Jump Komodo, could only be accessed by opening the main y-zip compartment. It’s a cool feature but it should be noted that these mesh pockets become completely unusable if the main compartment is packed with large, rigid objects. Additionally, I love that the top lid pocket on the ASAP 20 is cut and sewn in such a way that filling the main compartment to capacity does not interfere with your ability to fill that lid pocket. That lid pocket is a mesh bottomed design with plenty of space for snacks, electronics, etc and contains an additional small mesh zippered sleeve for a wallet or any valuables that require additional securing. My ASAP 20 packs well with drop zone support gear that includes a complete DC3RH Chest Rig, BattleBoard FIST 4.0, and my electronics case in the main compartment with rain/cold weather layers in the Rip Zip pouches, and some random personal items in the lid pouch. Second Positive: Functional External Molle. The fact that Mystery Ranch has finally designed a pack with FOUR vertical rows of full coverage external molle nearly had me in tears. Four rows is important as it is the minimum amount required for both aftermarket administrative pouches and, most importantly, Mystery Ranch's own Rip Zip Accessory Pocket (Size Small). While I’d argue that five vertical rows is the ideal size for fully securing the Rip Zip Pocket, four rows should be a non-negotiable minimum standard on every single military pack they design. I’ve added a pair of Small Rip Zip Pockets to my ASAP 20 and they allow quick access to a rain layer and cold weather accessories without filling space in the main compartment. First Improvement: Material Choice. The 330D Nylon on the ASAP 20 feels very similar in thickness and texture to a Universal Parachutist Recovery Bag. While I understand that Mystery Ranch is specifically highlighting that this material choice is intended to “lighten the warfighter’s load,” I am not convinced that any customer is out there complaining about the unbearable weight of their 20L assault pack. My ASAP 20 is destined for a lifetime of military use and I would prioritize durability above weight savings for an assault pack of this type. The 500D CORDURA on my Jump Komodo has been treated like absolute trash all around the world and has proven to be virtually bulletproof. I wish the ASAP 20 used the same 500D CORDURA, however I recognize that time will be the true test of the 330D’s durability. I’m skeptical it will hold up to the same abuse. Second Improvement: Web Keepers. The fact that I must purchase a separate $12 box of web keepers to properly secure the free running ends of the adjusting straps on my $400 Assault Packet is absurd and makes me feel taken advantage of as a customer. No doubt that box of web keepers represents an incredibly high profit margin sale for the company, but I do not see any logistical hurdle that would prevent Mystery Ranch from implementing the practice of including these web keepers immediately. Mystery Ranch, please include the same amount of web keepers as there are long straps on the ASAP 20. I even counted for you. There are seven. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the design of this bag and will rate it highly.
