Rated 5 out of 5 by from Come for the pockets, stay for the comfort!BLUF: This is the most comfortable pack I've ever carried!Details: FRONT POCKETSI've been eagerly anticipating the release of the Bridger 35 ever since I saw a preview video online almost half a year ago. I was initially drawn to this pack for the chest pockets. As a long-time trail runner, I'm used to carrying my water on my chest in soft flasks with filters. I gave up bladders a loooong time ago and am not eager to return to that life. If you've never tried it, there's something wonderful about how carrying your water on your chest balances out a load. Not to mention, you can often get away with carrying less water because you can simply scoop at each creek you pass (just so long as you have flask filters). For those interested, you can fit up to 600ml soft flasks with room around the inside for thinner snacks (like gels or bars). The constraint with going with larger flasks is the height of the pockets rather than the width. I have some 750ml soft flasks that simply stick up too high above the pocket to not flop around after taking a few sips.COMFORTFor many of you, the most important thing to know is how the pack carries. Definitely believe the hype about how well Mystery Ranch's new frame/yoke carries! When I first packed the Bridger with my normal day pack load, I was convinced that I was over-bagged. The pack carries so well that I could barely feel it on my shoulders. Last night I took it out for a 90-minute test with a 25 lbs load. Compared to my previous bag, the Bridger is orders of magnitude more comfortable. I'll be restricting the Bridger 35 to my personal day pack use and buying a Bridger 45 or 55 as my dedicated SAR pack. FITOne interesting thing I found while fitting the pack is that you have a decent amount of range with where you place the yoke while maintaining comfort under load. This allows you to fine-tune the location of the front pockets. At 6'3" inches with a long torso for my height, I went with the size Large. I started out with the yoke lower on the pack so that the front webbing straps were longer. This was comfortable but the pockets were too high on my chest. I adjusted the yoke to be higher on the pack with shorter front webbing straps. This was equally (if not more) comfortable and allowed me to move the pockets lower on my chest. I appreciate that I have a range of options whereas my previous packs all seemed to have a single sweet spot. VALUEYou know what they say: "Buy nice or buy twice (or even thrice!)." While MR packs are on the more expensive end of the range, they'll last you a lifetime. I give five stars for value because (a) I can tell that the quality of materials and craftsmanship of this pack will last me for all the years, and (b) I don't have to worry about a Mystery Ranch pack failing in the field. That peace of mind is invaluable.
