The foundation for our modular system, the SHIFT is a stand-alone IA pack with room for essential equipment, and a load shelf that supports and stabilizes hosepacks.

Minimalist Fire Pack = Full-Fledged Transformer
Light and fast, this is our most streamlined Fire Pack. NFPA categorizes it as PPE, we call it Load Carrying Equipment. It’s both, plus so much more: a pack prepared for that wind shift when fire crests the hill and starts spotting a mile out. The SHIFT is a simple and burly IA tool that works with the PLUS 900 and future modules for extended attack, single resource assignments, and mission-specific versatility.
- Three components combine to form the fundamental innovation that makes the Shift System truly unique: its Operational Load Shelf.
- First, the Fire-specific yoke features our patented Futura adjustment system to telescopically adjust to any user’s torso length, but reduces its footprint width by 2” to maximize ventilation and body heat dispersion.
- Second, the mid- and lumbar portion of the pack are built with continuous HDPE and fiberglass stay framing to bridge load distribution evenly from the yoke through to the hips and core.
- In combination, this is all serves the Load Shelf itself, which comes into play when hauling hose-packs, attaching the Plus 900 or forthcoming Modules, or doing something outside the box, like hauling 5 gal jerry cans, or strapping on a few drip-torches.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Tony from Great craftsmanship but a few minor design flawsAfter putting this system through its paces a few times I have noticed a few minor annoyances. The main one is that the adjustment straps for the "operational load shelf" are constantly loosening or sliding off the stiff backing of the lumbar region. This allows the fire shelter and storage pocket to fall open even with no load or hose pack in place. Cinching the webbing down has not seemed help either. The weight shift is minor but noticeable, not to mention making it more difficult to reach for my shelter while wearing the system. All in all, I would recommend it, but I will be trying to modify it to make this feature more effective.

I really like the shift it carries my essentials for a days work in the field with plenty of water. I bought the 3L hydration setup for the shift. The ranch’s harness system is strong and keeps the load off my back. Love it. My only gripe is no holder for a canteen for my electrolytes. No problem though with the awesome molle attachments on the belt I installed an expandable canteen holder that will hold up to a 40 oz hydro flask on hip without feeling it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brandon from GREAT PACK ALL IN ALL!!!!!I bought this pack(CAL-FIRE spec) about 6 months ago for the fire season in California. It has been a great back on the few fires that I have been on. It works very well with a standard hose pack. I have bought the 900 plus attachment because the pack has been so nice and well built. My only problem with it is that I wish there was in integration to have your lapel mic weaved threw the system when you have it attached to the radio holster threw mystery ranch. Other then that it has been so great that our whole department has been interested in buying them.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Firefighter from Simple and comfortable.This is a great pack. Some things that would improve it would be wider shoulder straps so they don’t dig in to the shoulder as much. Wider belt strap to feel a little more secure. A better strap to hang from the fire engine. Otherwise this is a great pack. The backplate makes it comfortable and distributes the weight well. Zippers are solid.

Fits enough first aid (in the shelter case) and sustainment supplies to get through the day.I do wish it had more MOLLE on the belt - I'm used to carrying 8 loops of gear per side, coming from their Military packs - but there's still a place everything, just not quite as accessible with the pack on.

Well built and durable, I believe the shift will take the abuse. Having the ability to add (900) for all day or keep as engine/IA pack is great for me because I am often switching roles in the field. Simply the best pack available today. Great job Mystery Ranch!

When I go out on assignment where I am on the line, the additional attachment give me the option to carry needed gear for extended periods. The fitting adjustments make it very comfortable for extended periods of use.
