Rated 5 out of 5 by G Co from Very nice packBackpack is great for my daily commute or travel. Small enough for my bike commute to work but also large enough to pack the essentials. I really like the many pockets which makes this pack functional and organized. The two water bottles sleeves are nice and easily hold my Nalgene and my coffee. The harness system is customizable and very comfortable. The shoulder straps stay in place even without the chest strap. I do wish it offered a few more admin slots and smaller pockets. But I paired this pack with a small mission control bag to keep electronics and cords organized. Best pack I have ever owned.

Rated 4 out of 5 by student1234 from Mostly great, with a few dumb mistakesDecided to make this my EDC laptop and tablet bag after trying a number of alternatives.Pros:Comfort is excellent. Same harness as the Urban Assault series, if you are familiar. The frame sheet isolates your back from the laptop compartment. Without it, you would never get a comfortable fit with a large laptop. If you are shorter than ~5'9", you should get the 18. Taller and you will be fine with the 24, but the 18 is night and day more comfortable than the UA 24 for a shorter person. The laptop sleeve can fit a beefy 15 inch laptop and tablet, an Asus g15 and galaxy tab s7+ for me. If the laptop were any larger, it would be pretty difficult to fit. Same with a wider tablet, I don't think a 12.9" ipad pro will fit in the tablet section.Main compartment is deeper than you'd think, and can swallow a lot of stuff. The organizational pockets are fine, just enough to keep a charger and another item in place but easy to access. The internal velcro flaps that help hold the shape of the bag are great. If there's anything in the bottom of the bag (water bottle, sweatshirt, etc), the bag will stand on its own, even with a laptop. The UA 24 will not do this. The stretchy water bottle pockets work well, accommodating both a small 12 oz coffee bottle and a 32 oz double wall water bottle. In general, build quality is excellent. Beefy zippers, nice pulls, fabrics are of high quality. Hummus color is very nice, little darker than the pictures, but that's good in my book.Cons:The main compartment zippers are tough to pull. I am honestly quite surprised this made it to the final product. The shape of the zipper has little bends it, which lets it go around the water bottle pockets. Good in theory, but the zippers get 'stuck' around the corners, and it's nearly impossible to open the zippers smoothly without really yanking on them. Maybe this will break in a bit, and it's not deal-breaking, but its just silly. Next time skip the slight S bend, and just make the zipper one big U. Won't look quite as cool, but it would work way better. No strap keepers. This is another head scratcher, it's got to cost what, maybe a dollar total to add them to every strap on the bag? Like come on, if you are going to give us like 2 feet of shoulder strap adjustment, at least give us a way to contain the extra, it really looks unprofessional without them. The front organizational pocket is just weird to access. Why is it velcro on the top? It feels like they wanted it to be magnets, but ended up having trouble getting good quality ones for a reasonable price. It's a real shame, it's clearly meant to be accessed from the top first and side zipper second, but I don't want to have to rip open velcro for quick access to a pen or gum in a quiet environment. The pockets are taller and more vertical than I would've expected, and there's only two medium sized pockets and two pen pockets. There's definitely room for more features here, and a little elastic or a couple zippers would go a long to making the pockets more useful for a wider range of items. The top pouch is oddly wide and shallow? It is fine for me, but if you have a Max or Plus phone, it will probably be too wide for a comfortable fit. Just not as useful as the ones on tri-zip MR packs.Overall: The best pack for comfortably carrying a heavy laptop and tablet, with a few flaws. Nothing else is anywhere near as comfortable. Build quality matches that of more expensive bags from other brands. However, the zipper design should have never made it past a prototype and the front pockets could really use a re-design. Just make the top a zipper and get rid of the flap, or figure out a magnet/latch system. Two really easy to fix mistakes, neither of which are deal breaking, but they do prevent this from being a truly great pack.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Dad_Jokes from A good but incomplete EDC backpackBackpack has a basis but it just has a general feeling that it was designed until someone ran out of time. Bottom line: I should have not have convinced myself that it would work for me and should have returned immediately. I look forward to future revisions. Pros:**Feels good on the back. **I like the interior organization of the main compartment. Several open pockets that allow for relative ease of use. **I came to appreciate the hybrid half-zip/clam shell design of the main pocket. There are interior flaps that prevent the bag from opening completely but can be undone to allow a clam shell opening.Cons:**Front pocket is underdeveloped. No admin pouch which I thought would not be an issue but quickly became one of my main irritants. No mesh pockets or pen holders. It does barely fit a Steam Deck and generic charger**Top pouch is extremely shallow to the point of being virtually useless. Not felt lined.**Laptop compartment is not suspended from the bottom**No strap keepers. Just an odd omission**Water bottle holders are technically made of a stretchy material but are unable to keep anything but the largest bottles in place.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Van F from Pretty good for EDC & beyondA great bag for carrying your everyday gear. I have 15.25" gaming laptop & have issues with it fitting in some packs, but it fits in the dedicated laptop sleeve - barely. There is plenty of room for all the crap I carry. I love the main compartment division + the ability to change it to a clamshell type of pack. I bought the black version & the hi-vis orange interior is awesome. The quick access pocket on top is reminiscent of the top brain areas on their other bags. It's not huge, but it is adequate. The front outside pocket is a bit of a miss in terms of access. I've seen reviews where the Velcro flap starts to curl. Mine has not done that yet. I feel Velcro shouldn't have been used, but it may have been for cost & weight's sake. The organization in this pocket can be good if you have the necessary items that could accommodate their length & volume. Yes, the 2 upper pockets are not elasticated & are long. I mainly use the lower one that can be accessed with the side zipper. It reminds me of the Summit in this aspect. Others have commented on the comfort. It does wear & feel different than other MR packs, but for me, I had no issues dialing it in to where it was more comfortable (I'm 5'9"). I also agree that some sort of strap management would have been nice. The outside pockets are good for water bottles, though don't have that much elasticity. Skinnier bottles may come out easier. I used this as a Dad Bag & it was perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Helena from All around fabulousRecently bought this to be my work backpack (office job with bike commute), and used it as my personal item on a long overseas flight. It's also been good as a small day pack for outdoor climbing. The pockets are great for keeping my things organized and it fits comfortably, plus the water bottle holders are perfect for Nalgenes/similar. It holds about the right amount of stuff for work/travel/short day trips, but would probably be a little small for a bigger day hike (and has no hip strap). Overall so far it's been absolutely fantastic for everything I wanted to use it for! Only flaw is the velcro on the front, I wish it was magnets or snaps or even just a blank flap instead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by JimS from Good EDC bagOverall, this is a good EDC bag for work. It carries my laptop, tablet and daily office needs. For extended trips, I should have gotten the larger version. Strap keepers would be a nice addition, but $10 for strap keepers from Amazon took care of that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Thomas from PerplexingThis is not my favorite Mystery Ranch pack, and I own many, many Mystery Ranch packs and bags. Additionally, I have gifted many Mystery Ranch products to family and friends. So, I kind of know Mystery Ranch. My first impression was that the pack seemed sturdy enough outside. The interior seemed kind of flimsy. The new materials take some getting used to. But, I soldiered on with my new District 18. I noticed that the zippers on the main compartment didn't meet up when zipped together... After we got rained on the first week out, and things got wet. I found this correctable by keeping the zippers on the side of the pack. But, we haven't been rained on hard since that one day. But it's rainy season here now, and I'm certain I'll have a chance to see if my theory proves true. The many pockets on the inside of the pack are useful, but challenging to warm to, only because they are pockets without structure. It should be noted that I am not big on buying packing cubes for my everyday carry stuff. Maybe I'm cheap, maybe it's because I like zip lock freezer bags to make my own cubes/bags. Makes it easy to spot what I'm looking for, instead of memorizing what's what. The optional inside/outside water bottle holders are genius. I really like that feature. I wish it was like that on some of my other Mystery Ranch packs. The materials are going to take some time to prove themselves. Although, I have been using this pack a lot these past two months. All of this being said, I really enjoy carrying this pack. I have been carrying this pack exclusively since I got it... I find that I want to carry this pack... Passing up my "favorite" packs. The harness system is Mystery Ranch comfortable. Even loaded out, it seems like nothing at all. The bits and pieces of designs from some of my other packs are appreciated. The new twists even more. I am still in the deciding stage on the materials, but so far I feel, and trust, Mystery Ranch has delivered again. Not only would I recommend this pack, I plan to gift a couple for Christmas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Sillygoose from Love it!The district 18 has been my daily carry for the last month of a resident masters program. I carry a laptop, mouse, charger, notebook, etc. Every day and it still looks like it did out of the box. Stitching and materials seem to be quality and it feels comfortable. The only thing I can't fit into it is my lunchbox. 10/10 would take to the county fair; 3/10 would take to war.
